Bingham Farms Students Serving the Meal

On Monday this week about 30 4th and 5th graders moved into the Meldrum site for the afternoon and took over the serving of the noon meal. No guest had to leave the table as the students served the meals directly to them along with a drink and napkin and anything else they may have needed. The kids were from Bingham Farms Elementary School in Birmingham, MI. As they met a loll in the service, they visited with the guests and had a great time. One of the students asked her teacher ahead of time if she could play her violin for the folks. She said, “I love to play, and everyone loves music.” She did play the Ave Maria and then Jingle Bells to which everyone joined in with song. She plays with the Detroit Youth Orchestra, and very well at that! She beamed as everyone broke into a great applause, and so did her mother who happened to be one of the chaperones. When the kids left, everything was quiet—we don’t often see the dining room so alive with the energy of little people who want to come and make a difference. And, that they did with lots of smiles and appreciation. Thanks, Bingham Farms students!
