Healthy Environment for Growth

Br. Jerry and I frequently compare garden notes. Recently, he was pointing out some plants that were not thriving because of the poor soil. I was telling him about our Dominican community garden. Some of our plants are growing so well. However, a new garden section we tried this year is not fostering plant growth at all.  It is filled with too much sand and too many rocks. It reminds me of the recent scripture readings where Jesus talks about the hundred fold for seeds planted in the “good soil.”  Such garden experiences, both in life and in scripture, challenge me to provide healthy environment for growth—both for plants and for humans.
