Laughter

Lunch is always a new experience at the Meldrum Soup Kitchen. I was at a table today with a gentleman who was talking about his life and struggles. He then turned his words inside out and began laughing at himself. Someone nearby asked him why he was laughing, and he replied, “I have to laugh. If I couldn’t laugh, I’d be dead by now.” Each new day holds challenges that only he can face. A little food and conversation to aid the process goes a long way and so does a hearty laugh.

I was with my cardiologist yesterday, and as he spoke with the pharmacist on the phone, he made a quip to him and then said, “Humor is the best medicine.” I’m seeing the wisdom and value in a smile or a laugh that travels the entire room. Can you imagine a world in which no one smiled?
