Many people have called to ask if there
are other ways they can help the Capuchin Soup Kitchen provide
services and programs to Detroit's people in need. Here are
a few planned giving options:
- A Gift through Your Will -
Making a bequest in your will is a great way to leave a
gift when your current situation leaves you on a tight budget
and unable to make gifts during your lifetime.
- A Gift Annuity - When you
make a contribution towards a gift annuity, you will receive
income for life, a charitable income tax deduction, in addition
to making a gift to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
- A Gift of Life Insurance -
When you name the Capuchin Soup Kitchen as the beneficiary
of your life insurance (or as a co-beneficiary), you can
make a wonderful gift by making modest insurance premium
payments during your lifetime.
- Honor or Tribute Gifts - You
may make a donation the Capuchin Soup Kitchen on special
occasions like birthdays, anniversaries or holidays. Also,
"In Memory Gifts" are received most often in the
passing of a loved one. With these type of donations, we
will send a card to those you designate to notify them of
your gift in their honor.

In-Kind
Helping families recover from the tragedy
of a fire or establishing a new life out of a shelter is part
of the ongoing Capuchin mission. In order to assist these
families, we willing accept good usable furniture at the Capuchin
Services Center. (Click here
for hours of operation and location) Donated household items
such as bed and bath linens, dishes, pots and pans, silverware,
and small appliances all help displaced families reestablish
their households. Working appliances; gas stoves and dryers,
refrigerators (no more than 12 years old) and washing machines
are also very much in demand.
We are constantly in need of clean, quality
clothing for distribution. Men and children's clothing
are always in greatest demand. All of these items can be dropped
off at the Capuchin Services Center.
Providing emergency food to those in need
is at the core of out Capuchin Mission. Non-perishable food
items are always gladly accepted to be distributed to the
200 families that daily come to the Services Center.
During the Thanksgiving season, special programs
provide Thanksgiving food baskets to families. At Christmas
time, toys and food baskets are distributed to families in
need. Turkeys and holiday hams along with new, non-violent
toys can be donated for these programs.
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen also accepts the
