BREAD OF LIFE

Last Sunday in our Church, the scripture readings were about the manna in the desert during the time of Moses and about the BREAD OF LIFE that Jesus promises all believers.

I thought about all the depths of meaning that the words BREAD OF LIFE have for me and those I serve. At the Soup Kitchen, menus come and go, but always there is bread—stacks of bread for all occasions and needs. During this Summer Peace Camp, I have noticed how many children come to the program with stomach aches because they haven’t eaten or there is no food in the house. Thank God, at the Soup Kitchen, there is always bread around, crackers, breakfast bars, or muffins that I can offer them along with some orange juice. BREAD OF LIFE!

I think we offer the children other forms of bread: we offer them song, dance, art stories, gardens, and love from all our teachers….a bread that nourishes, enriches, and supports the life of our youth. I pray that each of us can be BREAD OF LIFE for all those people with whom we journey.
