Planned Giving

In your lifetime, you have most likely been generous to many causes. They may have been charities that have made a difference in your life or the lives of those that you care about, or perhaps, their mission is one that you believe in and want to help support. For more information on how to include the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in your estate plans, contact Kristi Hassouna at 313-929-2002 or email

The Capuchin Soup Kitchen is honored to accept a wide variety of Planned Gifts, in order to best meet the needs of our donors.

Charitable Bequest in a Will or Trust

A charitable bequest stipulates that a specific amount (a percentage or the remainder of your estate) be given to Capuchin Soup Kitchen after your lifetime. Gifts from your estate to CSK are exempt from estate tax.

Life Insurance

Life insurance in the form of an old policy no longer needed by the original beneficiary or a newly created policy to benefit CSK can be a helpful investment in our future.  Small premiums now may generate a major gift in the future, and premiums for these policies often are tax deductible. Many employers provide group life insurance as a benefit, and CSK may be named as a beneficiary for a portion of proceeds.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A Charitable Gift Annuity is an agreement between you and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen wherein we agree to provide you a determined amount for life, in exchange for your gift. Unlike most other retained income arrangements, a gift annuity is not a trust - it is a contract. Charitable Gift Annuities pay you a fixed percentage return of your gift based on the donation amount and your age.

Real Estate Gifts

Real estate gifts may include developed property, undeveloped property or gifts subject to a prior life interest. Prior to acceptance of real estate, CSK will require an environmental review of the property to ensure that the property has no environmental issues that may subject CSK to legal and financial liability.

Retirement Assets (401k, IRA)

Retirement assets can be easily gifted to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen by changing the beneficiary designation. You can also reduce income taxes payable by your family - in addition to saving estate taxes - by giving retirement assets to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Please consult with your tax advisor, as special rules apply to making charitable gifts of these assets during life.
