A Shining Star

I have been thinking a lot about stars, recently. In fact, in December about 25 of our Rosa Parks Youth Program participants designed and created beautiful stars to commemorate the shining star that was Nelson Mandela and to celebrate the coming of Christmas. The soup kitchen dining room walls were cheerful and joyful with so many radiant stars decorating them.

Christmas stories, New Year's celebrations, and the biblical rendition of three wise men following a star to Bethlehem continued my thoughts about stars. As the new year commences, I am wondering if a star will ever shine on Detroit? Where is the light for Detroit? Are we waiting for a new mayor to do everything? The new city council is already struggling. Or is the star, the light, the journey for Detroit resurrection a challenge and a commitment that must involve every one of us?
