Sense of Humor

Today I was sitting with “James” at lunch. He had had a stroke and recovered well and then had a brain bleed. He spent a long time in the hospital and nursing home this past year for rehab. He spoke to me at lunch about someone who was trying to take advantage of him for some work he needed done. He told the person “where to go,” and added: “I told him, ‘I’m not stupid; I just look this way.’” In all the hurdles James has had to deal with in his life, including the recent death of his mom and the needs of his handicapped brother, he has never lost his sense of humor. I constantly walk away from him with a smile and feeling a little lighter myself. He is an amazing survivor.
