Dreams

I have been pondering “Dreams” lately. Langston Hughes’ poetry comes to mind:
“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die,
Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”

Several weeks ago, the children at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen created a dream wall in the front of the dining room.  Each child worked with another child and created a large design of their dreams. It is awesome and inspiring to read the hopes of these children—ages 7 through 14 years old:

I dream that one day people in my city will stop fighting and stop killing...
I dream that no one, no people will be hungry…
I dream that there will be peace in the world and in Detroit.
I dream that there will be more ‘living’ people
I dream that no child goes to bed hungry.
I dream that we will have more people who love and who are kind.
I dream that more people can find jobs.
I have a dream that ‘kids’ in high school will stop dropping out…
I dream that I can help others and be ‘nice’ to all.
I wish we could just shake hands and use our hands for helping.
I dream that this city could have lots of pretty gardens and that my neighborhood could get cleaned up…

And personally, I hope that none of us stop dreaming.
