Light of a New Day

On Jan. 16th at our prayer, one of the men wanted to pray for several people.  He said that he was overwhelmed and just kind of out of it with all the death that surrounded him.  His cousin, a 19 year old sophomore from Farris State U. was home and was shot dead in a robbery gone bad.  The young man’s brother was also shot but survived.  His grandson’s 15 year old friend was shot dead at a gas station in a fight that had broken out.  His father-in-law was being buried the coming Friday.  He died of natural causes.

This man said he was trying to be there for all of them because, “it is not all about me.”  “I need to be there to support our family.  It means a lot just to be there to give a hug and say a few words of comfort.  I’ve gone to 17 funerals in 2012, and it ain’t fun.  No one likes to go to funerals, but it’s not about me.  It’s about being there for people who need some comfort.”

He went on to say, “I pray three times a day and I want to be vigilant about doing that.  I pray in the morning when I get up thanking God that I see the light of another day.  I pray later in the day thanking God that I’ve made it this far through the day, and then I pray at night asking God to let me see the light of a new day.” -Br.
