Prayer Service

Today is Wednesday.  We always have a prayer service at 10:00 at the soup kitchen for any of the guests who desire to join us.  Usually about 18 to 20 will gather for some song, reflection and prayer.   I had a conflict today, and since I haven’t yet mastered the skill of bi-location, I asked two of our regular attendees, two men in their 40’s, to lead the prayer.  I got the group started in our usual fashion and explained that I’d have to leave to have mass at St. Charles.  One of the two men read the selection from Isaiah 55 about the rain not leaving the earth until it had done its job and the word of God doing the same.  I offered a question for reflection and then left the group in the hands of the two men.  Later in the day when I checked my messages, I had a word from one of the two men.  He said: “I want to let you know that all went well for the prayer session.  You must have seen something in us that we don’t see in ourselves (to ask us to lead).  Thank you for seeing something in us that we didn’t see in ourselves.”

I just might call on them more often now that they see what they didn’t see before!! - Br. Bob
