Resurrection Stories

Today at the weekly soup kitchen prayer we read from John’s Gospel about Jesus not losing anything that the Father had given him, and that he wants to raise up anyone who believes in Him on the last day.  So, we shared resurrection stories from our own lives: an incident that allowed us to be raised up from some kind of death.  One frail older man, who has dealt with addictive drinking over the years spoke up and said that the theme reminds him of the story of the prodigal son coming back to life and returning to his dad.  He said he himself has been that way and the soup kitchen saved his life as he made a turn-around in his own life.  Another one said he was dead in 23 years of using crack and that once he began coming to the soup kitchen, he found a home and new life.  He has been clean for 16 months now.  Lots of new life surfaced in the discussion, and we all left with a little more gratitude in our hearts.
