Waiting for the Bus

At prayer this morning, we were looking at the beginning of a new year since it was our first time meeting since Jan. 1st.  We read from John that God is love and the one who abides in love abides in God.  So, I asked people to share about a time they have either received a concrete expression of love or had the opportunity to give one to someone else.  One gentleman (“Mike”) started describing how he was waiting for a bus on one of these frigid days when the temp was zero or less.  It was windy, and he noticed just as his bus was coming that a man down the street had fallen, and he couldn’t get up.  He had to debate: “Shall I miss my bus and have to wait another hour, or shall I go help him?”  It didn’t take much time to decide that he had to help the man.  He went over to him, and the man said, “Thank you, man, I really appreciate this.  I had a stroke and just can’t walk well.”  The two went arm in arm down the plowed section of the street until they reached a gas station where he had to take the man in to warm up.  He had four more blocks to go, so the gas station attendant told Mike that he’d take the man home.  Mike went out to wait for the bus, and he said he suddenly felt very warm.  He didn’t mind waiting for the bus now. - Br.
